It can be said that insects are the unsung heroes of our world. In terms of abundance, they account for around three-quarters of Earth’s known animal species. Insects play essential roles in our ecosystem, from pollination to decomposition and as food for a plethora of species. In this lecture, acclaimed journalist Oliver Milman will overview the situation insects are in now, examine the evidence of what is causing these declines and the impacts of these collapsing numbers on the world as we know it. Find out what each of us can do, if anything at all, to help slow the losses and recover their numbers.

Oliver Milman is the environment correspondent at Guardian US and author of The Insect Crisis: The Fall of the Tiny Empires That Run the World. Originally from the UK, Milman now lives and works in New York. When not thinking about bugs or climate change, he can be found playing Lego with his children or riding a bike somewhere.
