Winterberry (Ilex verticillata) ‘Apollo’

Winterberries have male and female plants. Both are needed to set fruit. Female plants will produce the berries and this plant is a male that will work with ‘Red Sprite.’ Bluebirds, cedar waxwings, robins and many others descend on the berries, usually sometime after the first frost. Grows in moist areas in the wild, but is adaptable in the garden setting. This is the male version of this cultivar. The plant does not produce red berries in the fall and winter, a female plant is needed in addition to the male.
