Naturalist Guided Walks Extended Through Nov. 11
The Preserve offers naturalist-guided walks on Fridays through Sundays and holiday Mondays, at 11 am and 2 pm, starting in April and (usually) ending in October. However, because of the beautiful weather we’ve been experiencing, we are extending these walks through Monday, Nov. 11 (Veterans Day, and the last open day for our Native Plant Nursery for the season). You can sign up for these walks in-person at the Twinleaf Book & Gift Shop.
“We are so fortunate to have this opportunity to discover native plants and their distinct associations with pollinators in this living museum,” says Preserve Naturalist Jeanne DeMoss. “Take a peaceful walk with a naturalist to reconnect with nature and learn why these distinct associations matter and why we are so grateful to share this experience.”
These interactive experiences are a longstanding tradition for the Preserve, dating back to the 1950s! Our interpretative naturalists serve as your docents through the native plant museum. Like an experience you might take part in when visiting other fine institutions—indoor or outdoor—these guided tours are led by individuals who undergo year-long training to prepare them for this volunteer service. They are well-versed in the native species you will encounter along our trails and their roles in supporting our environment.
“Everything we absolutely need is outdoors,” says DeMoss. “The sun, clean air, clean water, healthy soil. We Preserve naturalists teach you why these key features are integral to life and why native plants—and their pollinator ‘buddies,’ plus other creatures—provide countless services to sustain balance in nature.”
We hope you'll join us these upcoming weekends! These walks are pay-what-you-wish for this season, with a suggested donation of $5 per person.
