Award-winning photographer Jim Amon will captivate us with a magical exploration into the Sourlands. This dive into the largest intact woodland in central New Jersey will highlight the plants, animals and natural processes of the region. Using the framework of his book, Seeing the Sourlands, Amon will indulge our senses with intriguing stories and images from his wanderings in the woods.

Jim Amon has spent nearly all of his working life addressing environmental issues, despite having advanced college degrees in history and philosophy. Thirty years after his hiring—still working as the executive director of the D&R Canal Commission—the Canal Park had 70 miles of usable paths, almost double in size since its creation in 1974. In 2005, after his retirement, Amon became director of stewardship for the D&R Greenway Land Trust—a non-profit that he helped found in 1989. For the next ten years, he did ecological restoration work on the nearly 100 nature preserves owned by the Greenway. In 2019, 64 of his essays and over 100 of his photographs were published as a book entitled Seeing the Sourlands, highlighting the plants, animals and natural processes of New Jersey’s Sourland region—the largest intact woodland in central New Jersey.
