North American Butterfly Association (NABA) Butterfly Count 2020

Join us for an event focusing on our fluttering friends. Why count butterflies? It helps scientists piece together the big picture of the distribution and population size of each species counted, including changes over time. And it’s fun! You will learn to identify the different types of butterflies and the native plants that they utilize for nectar and caterpillar food at the Preserve.
Please bring binoculars or a camera with a zoom lens, and a field guide, if you have one. Make sure you have plenty of water, snacks, and appropriate sun protection. The count will run from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm. Join us for all or part of the morning; all experience levels are welcome, from beginners to experienced butterfliers.
In accordance with our COVID-19 Health and Safety Plan, we are limiting the number of participants at 12, and attendees of this on-site program must follow appropriate social distancing measures, including wearing a mask. Please meet the group at the Visitor Center. Registration is required for this event.
Fees: $3 per participant
Additional Information: All proceeds will be donated to the North American Butterfly Association. Online reservations for this program close two days prior to the event. If you wish to register on or after July 16, please email lauricella@bhwp.org for space availability and reservations.
