Purple flowers arranged on a vertical spike add a different shape and texture to the garden. It grows well in the sun in moist to average soil but will also tolerate occasional wet soil at the edge of a runoff area. Blazing-stars are excellent nectar plants for butterflies, and birds feed on the seeds in the fall.
