Birch, sweet (Betula lenta)

Also known as cherry or black birch as the bark on younger trees is a deep reddish color which resembles young cherry trees, sweet birch makes an attractive landscape tree in the right conditions.  It requires moist to average soil and should be watered during summer drought for its first few years. Maturing into a stately tree, fall color is a reliable golden-yellow. As with all birch trees, it has high wildlife value and is an important host plant.
