Beach Plum (Prunus maritima)

$30.00

Beach plum is a small, suckering shrub that is covered with white flowers in the spring. It is prized for the beach plum jelly made from the small (1 inch) plums that are produced in late summer. An important wildlife plant, pollinators benefit from its early blooming, birds and small mammals eat the fruit, and its dense habitat provides shelter for birds and small mammals. Although mostly native in coastal areas, there is a native population growing in the red shale areas of Bucks and Montgomery counties.
